Dear Colleagues,
this is the first announcement for the First EURISOL User Group Workshop to be held at the Galileo Galilei Institute in Florence (http://ggi-www.fi.infn.it/), 14-18 January 2008.

The Eurisol User Group (http://www.eurisol.org/site01/indice.php?pag=1s) was founded during the CERN meeting 2006 as a driving force towards the realisation of the EURISOL Facility, to help keep the physics case for the EURISOL project updated, to strengthen the links with User Groups of other facilities and to make EURISOL known to the younger generations of researchers and students, both graduate and undergraduate. Work in these directions has been already done within Task 10 (Physics & Instrumentation) under the leadership of Robert Page and a workshop on PHYSICS OPPORTUNITIES with EURISOL was organised at ECT* in Trento on 16 -21 January 2006 (http://ns.ph.liv.ac.uk/eurisol/).

The importance of the "dissemination" aspect has been recognised by the INFN (Italian Institute for Nuclear Physics) which has agreed to partially support our workshop under the (internal ) status of " Training Course for INFN employees". Thanks to the INFN's support there will be no registration fee. Lunches, a welcome reception and the social dinner will be also offered, free of charge, to all participants. This meeting will also be considered as an official EURISOL DS task 10 meeting and as such participants from institutions involved in task 10 are authorised to use their EURISOL funds to cover travel and lodging costs.

During the workshop a supporting team for the co-ordinator of the user group will also be chosen.

The contents of the workshop will be:

Current experimental situation and future possibilities towards EURISOL.
Related instrumentation developments (possibly linked to JRAs in FP7).
Theoretical situation and developments foreseen, in particular:
Nuclear Astrophysics.
Neutrino interactions and Fundamental interactions.
Ground state properties.
Super-heavy elements.
Phase transitions/nuclear reactions and dynamics.
Limits of stability.
Exploring the neutron rich side.
Single particle and collective properties.

According to the rules of the GGI, participation in the workshop will be limited to 80 individuals, following the choice of the organising committee. Priority shall be given to those already active in the EURISOL project or wishing to become involved and/or to those proposing presentations which focus on the physics that EURISOL will open up -- the latter being particularly important for maintaining an up-to-date Physics Case. There will also be a small number of invited key-note talks. Time will also be allotted to a discussion of the user needs in the light of the beam preparation and post-accelerator developments currently underway within the Design Study.

You are kindly requested to fill in the registration form (http://www.eurisol.org/usergroup/?page_id=18). Registration is open up to16 November 2007 and acceptance will be confirmed by 23 November.
Blocks of rooms have been reserved at the hotel/residences (http://www.df.unipi.it/~angela/hotels.htm) and must be reserved directly by 6 January 2008 mentioning "EURISOL User Group Workshop".

The second announcement will be published at the end of November and the final programme at the beginning of January 2008.
