As part of the initiatives of the Department of Physics Strategic Plan, two meetings on Technology Transfer and Opportunities for Physics will be held, aimed at all members of the Department of Physics: students, PhD candidates, medical physics residents, postdocs, faculty, and administrative-technical staff.
The first meeting, scheduled for May 7 at 2:30 PM in Room A of the Polo Fibonacci, will begin with an introduction by the University Research Valorization Office on the topic of “Intellectual Property.” During this session, current regulations and university policies will be presented.
A roundtable discussion will follow, featuring companies that will share their experiences in collaborating with academia (research grants, commissioned research contracts, IPR rules), along with an open Q&A session with the audience. Panelists will include Claudio Raffo (CAEN), Andrea Dotti (PIX4D), Emilio Simeone (siHealth Photonics Srl), and Luca Bonci (Solbian). These selected companies involve physicists in leadership roles and/or have strong interactions with the Department.
Attendees are invited to fill out the following form to submit discussion points, comments, or questions for the speakers of the May 7 event:

The second meeting will take place on May 21 at 2:30 PM in Room Galilei (formerly 131), INFN Building C, Polo Fibonacci. It will feature an introduction on the topic of “Spin-offs” and a presentation titled “Patents: What They Are, How to Create Them, and How to Maintain Them,” by Prof. Andrea Pucci (Chair of the UNIPI Patent Technical Committee) and Prof. Francesco Fidecaro (Reviewer for the same committee).
This will be followed by a roundtable discussion with spin-offs and startups successfully founded or co-founded in the field of Physics. These companies will share their experiences and answer questions from the audience. Speakers will include representatives from Planckian S.r.l., Megamaterials (two UNIPI spin-offs), Genoa Instruments S.r.l. (former IIT spin-off), and QuantaBrain (a startup in the health sector).
Refreshments will be provided at both events.
