Andrea Dotti

Responsabile della divisione R&D Pix4d

Presentation

After earning his PhD in Physics from the University of Pisa in 2006, Andrea worked as a researcher first at CERN in Geneva for the ATLAS experiment, and then at SLAC/Stanford University in California, where he focused on simulations of radiation-matter interactions and high-throughput computing. Andrea was one of the main authors of the most widely used software in the field of simulations for particle physics, medical applications, and aerospace simulations.

Since 2019, he has been leading advanced R&D activities at Pix4D, with a particular emphasis on applying artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions to computer vision problems. The company, recognized as a leader in photogrammetry, develops cloud, desktop, and mobile software solutions for creating 2D maps and 3D models (point clouds and meshes) from digital images. The main applications are in the fields of surveying and mapping; architecture, engineering, and construction; precision agriculture; energy, utilities, and inspection; as well as forensic and public safety domains. The company, a spin-off of the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, was founded in 2011 and has offices in Europe, the United States, and Japan.
