Study Plans

The set of exams and educational activities required to obtain the Master’s Degree is defined by your Individual Study Plan (PdSI), which may be chosen from among those proposed by the Consiglio di Corso di Studi. Your study plan may relate to the academic year in which you enrolled or to a subsequent academic year. For example, if you enrolled in the 2022/2023 academic year, you may refer to any study plan from 2022/2023 onward, following the relevant guides:

When to submit your PdSI. It is recommended that you define your PdSI ideally before attending courses and certainly before taking exams. This is particularly important in the case of “free” plans, whose approval is not automatic.

How to submit your PdSI. The study plan may be submitted or modified at any time during the year via the CAPS – Assisted Compilation of Study Plans – web portal, which is accessible with your University credentials (the same as those for the Alice portal).

Free study plan. If none of the proposed study plans fits you, you may create a “free” plan. In this case, however, the plan must be approved by the CdS Council, which will assess its coherence and whether it is consistent with the profile of a Master’s graduate in Physics.

The minimum requirements that any PdSI must satisfy can be found on the Official documents and regulations page, and are implemented in the CAPS web portal.

External and abroad activities

Not all educational activities are offered within the Department of Physics. For example, you may include courses delivered by the Scuola Normale Superiore and by the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Pisa, as explicitly provided for in many of the proposed study plans. In addition, you can incorporate academic activities to be undertaken at other Universities and abroad, through various schemes ranging from the Erasmus programme to Double Degrees and Summer/Winter Schools.
