Master

The Master programme in Physics at the University of Pisa offers curricula covering virtually all the modern research fields in physics. Depending on the chosen curriculum, you will also get a variety of background skills, ranging from analytical and computational tools, to proficiency with advanced instrumentation.
Upon graduation, you are expected to be able to carry out professional activities in all the areas that require specific, high-level technical-scientific skills, as well as the ability to analyse complex phenomena.

You will be able to carry out R&D activities, to promote scientific and technological innovation, and to manage technologically advanced activities in public and private bodies, in Physics-related areas in industry, environmental monitoring, health, cultural heritage and public administration. You will be able to carry out high-level scientific dissemination activities in relation to the most recent research developments.

The Master’s Degree is carefully built considering the needs of students in terms of training, and based on research lines that are active both at the Department of Physics and at partner institutions such as the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN), the National Research Council (CNR, Nanoscience Institute, Chemical-Physical Processes, Optics), the European Gravitational Observatory (EGO) and the National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF).

While attending the Master’s Degree at Unipi, it is possible to enter a special curriculum in collaboration with Sorbonne Université, and to obtain a double-degree (restricted to the fields of Plasma Physics and Fundamental Interactions, and offered to a limited number of students selected through an internal competition).

Please check this link for the research areas in the Department of Physics: Research areas.

The main ongoing research projects are listed here: Research projects.

As a graduate you will be able to:

  • Apply for a PhD in Physics, to pursue a scientific career in Academy, Research Bodies, or industry
  • Enter fundamental and applied research in an international environment
  • Take responsibility for R&D projects in national and international companies and laboratories, in the fields of electronics and optoelectronics, ICT, aerospace, and bio-medical technologies
  • Promote and develop technological and industrial innovation
  • Carry out teaching activities and dissemination of scientific culture
